Rei Kawakubo and her boundary-pushing label Comme des Garçon founded by the designer herself in 1969. Certainly support the fashion is art argument we've all been having for years. The fact that the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring 2017 Costume Institue exhibition, titled "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between," focuses exclusively on her work; lending a hand in her making history as the 2nd living designer to be honored since the first Yves Saint Laurent exhibition in 1983. This leaves nothing to be said about her level of accomplishments as a designer, however the exhibition is less interested in defining her creations as fashion or art it follows the ebolution of her designs from the beginning all the way up and to what they have manifested into in today's society. He daring shilouets and unconventional designs have changed the very foundation of retail and Corning construction as we know it designers are pushing the envelope and searching for new and enovative ways to convey their designs now more than ever.
